FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Since 2002, the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) has worked closely with the office of our Governor to declare an annual Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Period. The MMA is pleased to announce that Governor Deval Patrick has extended that courtesy to Motorcyclists in the Commonwealth for 2009. The Massachusetts Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Period runs this year from March 24th through the entire month of April, 2009!
Especially at this time of year in New England, Motorcycles begin to emerge on the roads, still covered with sand and salt, as well as motorists looking for large object such as plows, not small objects such as motorcycles. While it’s the responsibility of all motorists to share the road safely and courteously, a reminder that motorcycles are motorists, too, helps remind drivers of all vehicles, including motorcycles, to be more alert.
“The MMA has renewed its campaign around safety and education; with the release from Governor Patrick of the 2009 Proclamation, this is an important step in our vision to make the roads of Massachusetts safer for all concerned”, commented Dave Condon, MMA Chairman…
Doc D’Errico, the MMA Legislative Director noted, “working with the Governor’s Office is a pleasure and reinforces our shared vision of safer roadways for all motorists, regardless of the number of wheels; this shared commitment means a lot considering the MMA’s heavy focus on Safety and Education for this year’s Legislative Agenda”.
Joe “Sarge” Komola, MMA Safety and Education Officer added, “knowing that the Governor’s office supports this proclamation every year is not only comforting to the motorcyclists of Massachusetts, but demonstrates a commitment at the highest levels to assuring that the roadways of Massachusetts are safe for all concerned.”
