FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) is pleased to announce agreement with Park Plymouth, the Town of Plymouth’s Parking Program, with regard to parking Motorcycles in a manner agreeable to the town and considerate to motorists. This new program will allow up to 4 Motorcycles to park under one paid parking permit in a single space which should improve conditions in the town, especially in the highly popular waterfront area.
For many years, Motorcyclists have frequented the waterfront in Plymouth, a popular gathering spot for all motorists and tourists. With the advent of paid parking in Plymouth several years ago, parking regulation enforcement created confusion among vehicles and animosity towards motorcycles who were taking unnecessary space from other vehicles. Over the past several years, the MMA has been in communication with the town and with Park Plymouth concerning the issue, culminating in a presentation to Park Plymouth several months ago by Kevin Griffin, Past Chairman and Ex Officio to the MMA Board, and Darryl Stoddard, MMA Plymouth County Representative. Since that initial presentation and with significant support from the Park Plymouth committee, a plan was developed which is a benefit for all concerned.
Working diligently over the past several months, Darryl Stoddard, MMA Plymouth County Representative received final approval from the Park Plymouth Committee for the plan which would allow up to 4 Motorcycles to be legally parked within the boundaries of a single vehicle space under a single space parking fee which may be paid at a kiosk or parking meter. In the case of a kiosk, the original paid slip may be displayed on a single motorcycle while the tear-off portion should be retained by the rider. Transparent holders will be provided at no cost by the MMA and can be used to display the original paid slip on the right side of the handlebar so that the paid slip is easily visible.
Availability of the transparent tags has not yet been announced. For more information concerning these tags, please contact Rick Gleason, MMA District 2 Manager (managerdistrict2@massmotorcycle.org) or Darryl Stoddard, MMA Plymouth County Representative (plymouthrep@massmotorcycle.org).
Mr. Stoddard commented that, “it was a difficult task for the town of Plymouth, and the MMA would like to extend thanks to all the members of Park Plymouth, Plymouth Police and Fire Departments, who realized the benefits that this change would make on the parking issues within their town.”
