MMA Annual Meeting - Election Results and By-Laws Changes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 8, 2015
On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association held it’s annual meeting at the Rose Garden in Upton, MA. As previously published to its membership, the annual meeting is also the annual elections for your MMA Board-of-Directors; one-third of the Board seats expire each year and are re-seated at the end of the year to new 3-year terms. Additionally, the Board-of-Directors voted to accept changes to the By-Laws which allow for smoother continuous operation of the organization.
Elections were held, as published, for those available seats elected by the Board. Reelected unanimously to 3-year terms of office were: David Kristal of Billerica, MA as your MMA Treasurer, Diane Alba of Winthrop, MA as your MMA Clerk/Secretary, Bill Cheetham of Millis, MA as your MMA Safety & Education Director, and Jim Sherman of Medfield, MA as your MMA Off-Road Director. Also reelected as Vice-Chairman was Doc D’Errico of Southborough, MA, who is currently seated as Business Manager through 2016. Doc was also reelected as the Massachusetts State Representative to the Motorcycle Riders Foundation; this 1-year term is not a voting seat on the Board, but reports to the Board at every meeting.
District Representatives are generally elected positions, and filled annually. Upcoming annual District Meetings are published on your MMA Website Calendar. Members in good standing, who are residents of that District, may vote for their representative to the Board at those meetings. Candidates interested can contact either Chairman@MassMotorcycle.org or ViceChairman@MassMotorcycle.org for more information.
Please join us in thanking those re-elected members for their continued commitment to the Motorcyclists of Massachusetts.
Your MMA Board-of-Directors also voted unanimously to make 2 changes to the By-Laws. The first set of changes removes the Board position of “Industrial Affairs Director”, which has largely been vacant and is redundant to other functions of the Board. Simplification of the Board helps assure a quorum and removes confusion in the operation of the Board positions. The second change allows for your Board-of-Directors to fill an officer vacancy, whether generally elected, or elected by the board; this change enables continued operation of your MMA in the event an officer vacates their position before the end of their term, and is only effective until the end of the departing officer’s original term. The new MMA By-Laws have been published to the MMA Website, and are available under the “Membership” menu item. The “MMA By-Laws” are viewable by ANY member of your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association.
