Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association is saddened to report the passing of a founding member, Robert L. Doiron this past summer.

for his efforts in creating the “Check Twice – Save a Life, Motorcycles are Everywhere” Campaign
Bob Doiron was the original Chairman of the Modified Motorcycle Association of Massachusetts, founded in 1975. During his tenure, Bob created the slogan, “Check Twice - Save a Life, Motorcycles are Everywhere!” – a mantra that was repeated for 3 decades and seen around the Commonwealth on yellow lawn signs, banners, and bumper stickers.
Born July 29, 1937, Bob grew up in Somerville, MA before joining the US Air Force. He saw the early days of the Motorcyclists Rights Movement in the US and was instrumental in chartering the Modified Motorcycle Association chapter in Massachusetts, but also instrumental in that organization’s support of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation in Washington, DC.
Eventually moving to Moultonborough, NH, Bob remained a supporter of the Modified Motorcycle Association of Massachusetts, even after its merger with the ABATE of Massachusetts in 2002 to become the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association. Justifiably proud of his contributions and the direction of our movement, Bob passed away peacefully on July 25, 2016, just 4 days shy of his 79thbirthday.
Massachusetts Motorcycle Association Chairman Dave Condon commented, “Although we only occasionally spoke with Bob in his later years, we always knew his spirit was with us. Many of our current and past Board Members remained close to Bob and he always wanted to keep current with the organization. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob’s family and friends - he will be sorely missed, and we will be ever grateful for his efforts to found what’s become one of the premier Motorcyclists Rights Organizations in our great Country.”
Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association is remembering Bob through the issuance of a Memorial Patch and the creation of a Safety Award in his name, which will be issued beginning in 2017.
