MMA SAFETY ALERT: Harley-Davidson recalling 250,000+ motorcycles due to sticking brakes potential
Published on 2/9/2018
MMA SAFETY ALERT:
Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 250,000 motorcycles because the brakes might fail
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association would like to alert all riders who own over 30 models from the 2008 through 2011 model years about Harley-Davidson reporting that deposits can form on brake parts if the brake fluid isn't changed every two years as specified in the owner's manual. A lack of flushing the braking system can cause a valve in the antilock brake control unit to stick.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating problems in July of 2016 after getting 43 complaints including three reports of crashes and two injuries.
Owners can use this link to validate their VIN against the list of recalled motorcycles:

Safety Risk
Harley-Davidson says deposits can form on brake parts if the fluid isn't changed every two years as specified in the owner's manual. That can cause a valve in the antilock brake control unit to stick.
Remedy
Dealers will flush and replace brake fluid starting on Monday, Feb. 12. This service will be provided at no charge to the customer.
Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association strongly urges you to take your motorcycle to your dealer or authorized service center to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition.
For more information, please consult with your local Harley-Davidson dealer or Authorized Service Advisor.
