Congratulations to our MMA 2019 Harley-Davidson Raffle Bike Winner
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association extends it's thanks to everyone who participated in our 2019 Harley-Davidson Raffle and a special Congratulations to Karl Thober from Wells, Maine on winning this year's Raffle!
On an extremely hot Saturday afternoon in July, scores of riders made their way on 2-wheels and in 4 to High Octane Harley-Davidson in Billerica, Massachusetts for the fun. High Octane was running demo rides all day, giving away prizes, and running specials inside in the air conditioning, while Merrimack Valley HOG volunteers were cooking burgers on the grill outside. Your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association had the Raffle Bike on display while providing music and entertainment for the crowd who enjoyed the burgers, free Water and Lemonade, and there was even an Ice Cream Truck.
At 4 o'clock, those who weren't out on rides gathered around the tent to watch the drum being loaded with the purchased tickets. While Jane Gac, High Octane's Director of Events pulled winning ticket number 1578 from the drum, you could hear a pin drop.
Purchased from his winter home in Punta Gorda, Florida, Karl was at his summer home in Wells, Maine when he received the phone call from MMA Chairman, Dave Condon. As with so many others, Karl's first response was, "you're kidding me, right?".
Once the shock started to wear off and he caught his breath, Karl was more concerned with what was easiest and we be the most beneficial to the MMA. He mentioned taking the bike, selling it and giving anything he made back to the MMA as a donation.
Karl is life member of the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association, and has been since 1978 when he served 11 years on the MMA Board-of-Directors as the organization's Treasurer. Karl has always been and has remained a very strong supporter of the organization, attending MMA events and functions well into the late 2000's until retiring to Florida in the winter and Maine in the summer. Karl became a member of both State's Motorcycle Rights Organizations to support them as well.
Karl chose the cash option because of his age and health (Karl has been fighting cancer for the last 6½years). When he does ride now on the back roads of Maine and Florida he currently rides a trike.
We're pleased to see that someone who has given so much to our mission - in Massachusetts, Nationally, and in the States he now calls home - was able to get something back!
CONGRATULATIONS, KARL!
