On a blistering hot Saturday, amid a COVID-19-limited event, dozens of riders came out to High Octane Harley-Davidson in North Billerica to participate in Demo Rides sponsored by the dealership, and to visit with your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association's Board and Volunteers who spent the day talking to everyone about our mission, handing out "LOOK! For Motorcycles" signs and bumper stickers, and, of course, selling some of the remaining raffle tickets while onlookers appreciated the opportunity to not only see the incredibly sharp looking Raffle Bike in person after so many missed events, but also to test ride a similar model.
After a very trying year, marked by events cancellations and a lack of opportunity to speak with people in person, at 4PM sharp, a sizable crowd gathered, spaced for safe distancing, while the ticket drum rolled. When Jane Gac, High Octane's Director of Events reached into the drum, you could hear a pin drop, as if traffic on nearby Route 129 came to a dead stop. Speaking clearly into the Microphone, she announced that Brian Harris had won with winning ticket #0569!
As the winner's name was called, eyes began to scan the crowd to see if the winner was present. He wasn't, and was not immediately reachable by phone. Calls of "he's not here, draw another" met with polite laughter and applause for Brian's good fortune. Only a short couple of moments later, Brian returned the call, and was in complete disbelief and shock, stating, "I've been buying tickets for years, and never thought it would happen for me!"
Brian kept repeating that as he added, "I've never felt bad about buying the tickets because I know that the money goes to a good cause." Well, Brian, this week will be one you're going to remember for a long time!
Each year, your Massachusetts Motorcycle Association raffles off a brand-new motorcycle for one lucky winner. The proceeds from this raffle benefit all riders by supplementing your MMA’s operations including “LOOK! For Motorcycles” signs, bumper stickers, educational materials, mailings, etc. Your MMA is a 100% volunteer organization committed to promoting and protecting motorcycling and motorcyclists in the Commonwealth through a dedicated mission of Legislation, Safety, and Education.
Your MMA extends our sincere appreciation to EVERYONE who purchased tickets for this year's raffle, especially those who increased their purchases in this very trying year, and those many who took advantage of our special membership/raffle ticket bundle! We knew we wouldn't sell out this year due to all the cancellations, but your generous support exceeded our wildest expectations!
Filling out the paperwork earlier today, Brian couldn't wait to sit on his new 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special! Sitting on the bike with Ron Baldwin, your MMA's Treasurer at his side, Brian also commented that he thinks he's already sold his 2007 Electra Glide, so he's happy on all fronts!
