MMA Update: Nominations Still Open for GHSC Position

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MMA Update: Nominations Still Open for GHSC Position

On January 24, 2013, the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) announced to its membership that House Bill 3787 (H.3787), an Act to add Motorcycle representation onto the Governors Highway Safety Committee, was signed into law by Governor Deval Patrick.  Per Massachusetts’ Legislative Procedure, that law will become effective at the end of April, and the MMA is seeking candidates to fill that seat.

The 10-seat Governor's Highway Safety Committee (GHSC) was created with representation from the trucking, bus, taxi, bicycle, automobile, and other interests but until now has not included representation from motorcyclists.  This new seat on the GHSC adds a critically missing voice and all MMA members are also asked to consider nominees and/or volunteers to take on the important task of representing the Motorcyclists of the Commonwealth on this committee.

As mentioned in the original announcement, to fill this critical seat, the MMA will be interviewing qualified candidates, initially by phone, and then in person, during the next 30 days.  During the month of March, the MMA will announce the proposed candidate who will represent the motorcyclists of the Commonwealth.  Nominations and/or Volunteers should be in writing describing the candidate’s qualifications for the position, experience in motorcycling, and a demonstration of their commitment to the common good of motorcyclists.

All candidates should be a MMA Member in Good Standing for at least the last 3 consecutive years, willing to attend any and all meetings of the committee as well as report continuously in person to the MMA Board at MMA Board Meetings, be well spoken, and willing to represent the interests of the motorcyclists in a thoughtful yet deliberate manner.  Recommendations should be sent to Chairman@MassMotorcycle.org with a description of the candidate's qualifications for this important role no later than March 21, 2014.
